Jackal - Side Striped

Canis adustus

Distribution: Southern Side Striped Jackal – Northern Mozambique southwards to north-eastern South Africa, eastwards to the south-eastern part of Angola.

Size: SH: 45cm, W: 10kg

Description: There are eight subspecies of the Side Striped Jackal: Central African Side Striped Jackal, East Africn Side Striped Jackal, Kaffa Side Striped Jackal, Kenyan Side Striped Jackal, Moroccan Side Striped Jackal, Southern Side Striped Jackal and Western Side Striped Jackal.

Medium size dog-like predator, uniform grey with a slight lighter grey stripe on both sides, tail tip almost always white

Sex Determination: Males are a little bit stockier and heavier.

Trophy Assessment: Mature animal is the way to go.

Shot Placement: Broadside shot on the shoulder or frontal chest shot is the two best choices.
