Serval - Limpopo & Hamilton's

Leptailurus serval limpopoensis & Leptailurus serval hamiltoni

Distribution: Limpopo Serval – From Limpopo province South Africa to eastern Botswana and southern Zimbabwe.

Hamilton’s Serval – From eastern Limpopo to Mpumalanga provinces.

Size: SH: 60cm. W: 12kg.

Description: There are eighteen recognized subspecies of serval: Cape Serval, Robert’s Serval, Hamilton’s Serval, Limpopo Serval, Beira Serval, Mababe Serval, Lonnberg’s Serval, Northern Angolan Serval, Eastern Serval, Congo Serval, Ugandan Serval, Kemp’s Serval, Somali Serval, Phillip’s Serval, Monbutta Serval, Sahel Serval, Togo Serval, Barbary Serval, Selous Serval. 

Slender-pale, usually yellowish-fawn coat, black spots, black and white marked ears, black banded and tipped tail.

The difference between all the different subspecies like in most cases are the difference in colour, markings and size

Sex Determination: Males will have a heavier body and head usually higher on the leg.

Trophy Assessment: A big heavy male with a big head is always a good trophy to take.

Shot Placement: Normally a side-on shoulder shot when standing on all fours, a frontal chest shot when sitting and facing you or back spinal shot when sitting facing away.
