Wildebeest - Southern Blue

Connochaetes taurinus taurinus

Distribution: Southern Blue Wildebeest – Whole of South Africa, most parts of Namibia and south-eastern Angola. Botswana, Zimbabwe and central-south Mozambique. Central to western Zambia and south to the Zambezi river.

Size SH: 1.25m. W: 220kg.

Description: Blue-greyish coat with brindled stripes on the body, black mane and beard with curved horns. There are 3 recognized colour variants: King Wildebeest, Golden Wildebeest and the Royal Wildebeest

Sex Determination: Both male and female carry horns, males’ horns a lot heavier than females.

Trophy Assessment: A bull with at least 27” or bigger spread is a good trophy to take.

Shot Placement: Broadside – in the middle of the body straight-up with the front legs.

Frontal – Centre line in the chest.
