Distribution: From the western and far northern parts of South Africa to south-western Zimbabwe, central and southern Botswana and Namibia.

Description: There are three species of Oryx: Gemsbuck with two subspecies: (Common Gemsbuck & Angolan Gemsbuck), Beisa Oryx with four subspecies: (Common Beisa Oryx, Galla Oryx, Laikipia Oryx and Fringed eared Oryx) and Scimitar Horned Oryx with two subspecies: (Eatern White Oryx and Western White Oryx)
Large antelope, round ears, spear like horns, greyish-fawn colour with black markings on the top part of the legs and sides, white face with black markings. There are 2 recognized colour variants: Golden Gemsbuck and Red Gemsbuck.
Sex Determination: Both sexes carry horns, Males are usually stockier built with shorter heavier horns, Black tipped penis sheath is also visible on the belly.
Trophy assessment: Both male and female are acceptable to hunt, females normally have longer horns. 36″+ is an acceptable trophy size
Shot Placement: Broadside – in the middle of the body straight-up with the front legs (be careful not to aim to high as they have a very deep chest).
Frontal – Centre line in the ches
